Route: Fredericton β†’ St. John β†’ Digby β†’ Halifax β†’ PEI β†’ Camping β†’ Freddy


Day 1 – Friday, July 17

  • Departure from Fredericton ~12:00
  • Lunch in St. John
  • Ferry 14:15 β†’ ~17:00 arrival in Digby

From Fredericton we drive to St. John (~1:15 h) and then cross over on the MV Fundy Rose to Digby in Nova Scotia. Departure is at 170 Digby Ferry Road, Saint John, NB, E2M 0B2 at 14:15 – you need to be at check-in at least one hour beforehand. The crossing takes about 2 to 2.5 hours.

Ferry cost: CAD 122 (2 adults + car, children under 5 travel free)

Coastal Inn Digby – CAD 160 + tax, including breakfast (via booking.com)


Day 2 – Saturday, July 18

  • Digby β†’ Bridgewater (~2–2.5 h)

From Digby it’s about a 2-hour drive towards Lunenburg (UNESCO World Heritage Site), with Kejimkujik National Park roughly halfway along the route. In Lunenburg, the Fisheries Museum of the Atlantic is well worth a visit. If we’re still up for it, we can also stop in Mahone Bay – depending on how we feel.

Day 3/4 – Sunday/Monday, July 19–20

  • Bridgewater β†’ Mahone Bay β†’ Peggy’s Cove β†’ Halifax (~1 h)

Peggy’s Cove is almost on the way to Halifax and easy to fit in depending on the weather – best visited in the morning. Along the route there are also several beaches, e.g. Queensland Beach, as well as an ice cream stand – though you do need to briefly exit the highway.

Day 5/6/7 – Tuesday, July 21–24

Halifax β†’ PEI (~3 h)

From Halifax to Caribou for the ferry is about 2 hours. The ferry from Caribou to Wood Islands on PEI costs CAD 11.50 per adult – children travel free. Daily departures at 07:00, 08:30, 10:00, 11:45, 13:30, 15:15, 17:00 and 18:30, check-in at least 40 minutes before departure. Journey time is 75 minutes.

On the way to the ferry you could stop at the Aviation Museum.

Day 8/9/10 – Friday/Saturday, July 24–25

  • Drive from Cavendish approx. 2:15 h via the bridge.

Departure from PEI to Kouchibouguac for camping with our friends.

Sunday return from Kouchibouguac to Fredericton – journey time also about 2.5 hours.
